This date marks the anniversary of the band's very first live performance in 1980. On this night, the four original members—Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Bill Berry—played their debut gig at a friend's birthday party.

The Phil Collins Big Band was a side project formed by Phil Collins in 1996 that allowed him to return to his jazz roots and focus exclusively on drumming.
