Mr. Dana Presents
Welcome to the Rumpus Room. I’m Mr. Dana, a retired radio guy with over 40 years of broadcasting experience. Now that I’m off the clock, Mr. Dana Presents: Rumpus Room Radio is simply my way of sharing a lifelong music hobby straight from my home to yours. This isn't an "oldies show”, it’s a straightforward music program for hip seniors who enjoy hearing familiar tunes presented with a little thought behind them. For me, this show is a personal musical diary. I keep the production simple, old-school, and entirely focused on the tracks themselves. I try to put a lot of care into how the songs transition from one to the next, building music blocks that just make sense together. Between the records, I'll share some brief histories, chart positions, and fun facts about the artists. Our core focus covers the music we grew up with from 1950 to 1999, but I also include a Release Radar segment to feature newer music that fits the vibe. You can catch two different sessions every week:
- Wednesday: The Martini Lounge (Mid-Week Music Break)
- A relaxed, mid-week breather featuring Adult Contemporary, Easy Listening, Jazz Pop, and Soft Rock hits and deep cuts.
- Friday: Rumpus Room Radio
- A weekend warmup covering a broader mix of Rock 'n' Roll, Pop, Modern Rock, Alternative Rock, Americana, R&B, Soul, and Funk.
There is no big ego here, just a fellow music lover sharing the soundtrack of a lifetime. Pull up a chair and enjoy the music. Thanks for Listening, Mr. Dana

OTD: "I Love My Dog" is the historic debut single written and recorded by British singer-songwriter Cat Stevens (now known as Yusuf Islam). Released in September 1966 in the UK, the track serves as the vital springboard that launched his legendary music career.
Cat Stevens wrote the song when he was just 17 years old. The inspiration came from a real-life encounter in his youth when he found a dachshund (a "sausage dog") tied to a post outside of Foyles bookshop in London. When nobody claimed the puppy, he took it home, grew deeply attached to it, and penned the track as a tribute to that bond.
At the time, he was working at his parents' London restaurant while trying to find a break. In February 1966, he auditioned the song for independent producer Mike Hurst. Hurst was so captivated by the melody that he funded the recording himself, which directly earned Stevens his very first major record deal with Deram Records...
